The Armory

In our third year, WeMake will host our annual design conference exploring the experiments in process and two days of creative dialogue with inspiring design thinkers known locally, nationally, and internationally. This curated group of diverse speakers have been chosen from the design and maker communities because they are forging their own creative paths and making a mark in their respective industries.

Friday, October 13 – at The Armory in Portland’s Pearl District
9 am - 5:30 pm (Doors open at 8 am)
6 pm - After-Party at Wacom

Ticket Price Includes:

  • Entry to Friday's Conference, attendee goodies and interactive activities. 
  • Entry to Friday's After Party at Wacom

This year's proceeds will benefit:

  • MARROW, a radical education, arts, and activism space, centering young people
  • p:ear builds positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives.
  • Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls builds girls’ self-esteem through music creation and performance. 
  • Schoolhouse Supplies is an award-winning nonprofit that supports public education in Portland by giving students and teachers free classroom supplies.

We have awarded more than $50,000 through WeMake Celebrates to fund arts and music education in Portland.

Workshops - The second day is packed with hands-on experiences and fun to be had by all. More information on workshops coming soon! Separate tickets are required for workshops and space will be limited. 

WORKSHOP / ART DECO TYPE with keynote speaker Nicholas Misani
Learn the ins and outs of historical lettering design with a focus on Art Deco typography. Popular in the 1920s and 30s, Art Deco embodied glamour, luxury, exuberance, and technology. During this three hour class, Nick will share methods for creating lettering evocative of that time. Topics will include uppercase letterforms, ligatures, scripts, ornamentation, and patterns. All materials included.

WORKSHOP / NAIL ART with Asa Bree Sieracki
Her books maybe closed, but she’s willing to share some trade secrets with a look into her process of creating in the most minuscule way. Guest will be treated to a collection of her drawings and other works of art, along with teaching techniques in nail artistry. The workshop is three hours long with all materials included.

WORKSHOP / PORTSMITH TOTE with Ellie Lum of Klum House
No prior sewing experience needed. 
Make a durable everyday tote with rugged waxed canvas and timeless leather straps. This beginner-friendly sewing workshop has an amazing pay-off. In just 3 hours, not only will you go home with a tote that you made, you'll also learn indispensable bag sewing tips for handling heavy-weight fabric & learn how to attach leather handles! All materials and instruction included.

Transform a flat piece of paper into a functional pinhole camera, while learning how light works. You can then use your camera with photo paper (provided) to take large-format pictures—which you can develop in instant coffee and baking soda.
